Contempt of court act

Contempt of court, often referred to simply as "contempt", is the offense of being disobedient to or disrespectful toward a court of law and its officers in the form of behavior that opposes or defies the authority, justice and dignity of the court.

Senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan, who is facing contempt of court case, has tweeted that 'Now the Supreme Court wants to investigate whether calling a corrupt judge corrupt is contempt of court, even if you have evidence of it. The This too at a time when the truth was defended with accusations of contempt! ”In another tweet, Prashant Bhushan wrote,“ If a corrupt judge cannot be called corrupt then how will the judge be impeached. Which is the constitution-provided procedure to remove a corrupt judge. Will the MPs who signed the impeachment motion to remove the judge also face charges of contempt of court? '

Please tell that the Supreme Court has not accepted his contempt petition on the statement given by Prashant Bhushan in the year 2009. Actually, Prashant Bhushan is accused of contempt of court by his statements. The Supreme Court has said that it will tighten Bhushan's statement on whether it violates the Supreme Court or not.

A three-member bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Justice BR Gavai and Justice Krishna Murari said that further contempt is needed in the contempt case. Prashant Bhushan had allegedly stated in one of his statements in 2009 that half of the former 16 Chief Justices were corrupt. Now the Supreme Court will hear the matter on August 17.

While hearing the case on August 4, the apex court had made it clear to Prashant Bhushan and Tarun Tejpal that if it did not accept their explanation or apology in the matter, it would proceed further. During the hearing, the court said that it does not want to restrict the freedom of speech and expression but there is a very subtle distinction in respect of contempt.

Please tell that Prashant Bhushan is facing another contempt case. In fact, he sharply commented on a picture of the current Chief Justice SA Bobde. During the hearing of this case, Prashant Bhushan had said in his court reply that healthy criticism of Chief Justice is not contempt.
